News and Announcements / Help Stop SOPA
January 13, 2012, 05:21:02 PM
This website, and Sandcrawler Network (http://sandcrawler.net) will be participating in the SOPA Blackout on January 18th.

(updated) In addition to blacking out most of the day, I have also put togeather a game in protest of SOPA/PIPA. You can download it here.

On the 18th you will be unable to reach this website, instead you will be redirected to a website containing information about how you can help stop SOPA.

If SOPA passes this website may be taken down, the forums will undoubtedly be gone.  Other forums will also disappear at a rapid pace if SOPA is passed, SOPA makes the owner of the website responsible for all content on the website, including forum posts. Meaning if someone even post an image of Spiderman on the forums, or uses it in a signature the website would not only be blocked, but I could be charged.

PS: PIPA is almost the same as SOPA, and also has to be stopped.

PSS. I don't normally get involved in politics, but this effect the internet, something that we should all care greatly about.

Developer's Blog / Untitled Progress
January 10, 2012, 03:40:26 PM
Over the past two weeks I have been working on Untitled Beta 3, there have been several issues with the Online Leaderboards (the very reason I have delayed it until Beta 3). As I have mentioned in the past my Ludum Dare 22 entry Alone In Space, has an online leaderboard, and I have been using that to determine the best possible way to have a Leadboard for Untitled.

The problem is there is no way to securely send data from Contruct to the internet. In Alone In Space... when you submit your highscore you ping a simi-hidden webpage with your username, score, and win or lose. To discover the webpage all you have to do is watch the packets on your network, and it will point you right to the page, where you can set your own score.

My first solution was to have a key, that the game knows, and the website knows. but the problem with this is the key is static, so once you know the key (you would see it when you saw what packets were sent) then you can once again put in any score.

The next obvious solution is to make the key change, every so often. The problem doing it this way is that you can't have the key change even once a minute, because the client (that you download) and the webserver are not necessarily on the same time. Once every ten minutes works, but we still have the same problem as above, once you have the key, its good for ten minutes or so.

The solution, well there isn't one, regardless of what I do there is no way to stop you from setting your own score if you are determined to. That doesn't mean the idea listed above are not worth implementing, I will be using the rolling key change method.

In addition there will be a system in place that calculates the highest possible score, for the level you submit, and ensures that your score is below that maximum.

Once this is all implemented, then I'll be looking over Untitled as a whole, and polishing anything I find that is lacking. Then I will release Beta 3.

News and Announcements / To new Beginnings
January 10, 2012, 03:16:08 PM
I recently decided to start with a clean slate on this website. The old news and Developer's blog posts have been removed. They were posted at a time when I was at a crossroad with this website. I wasn't sure if I was going to keep it for my own use, or get rid of it. Now that I have been working on Untitled, and participated in Ludum Dare 22 I though it would be a good idea to have a website for them.

My Ludum Dare #22 entry Alone In Space... turned out well in my opinion, for a game made in 48 hours. I will be working on the game more in the future, I want to add additional levels, and a better story. This is my next project once Untitled is released.

Untitled Beta 3 has been further delayed, I really hate giving a date that it will be out by. So I'll just say that it grows closer to being released everyday, and leave it at that. For more information on the delay, and what is going on view the developer's blog.

If you have questions feel free to ask on the forums.
